Nath Chewta Promoted to Senior Associate & Peter Chan to Senior Engineer at Quantum Traffic
By David Beaton, Founding Director – Quantum Traffic
September 2026
At Quantum Traffic, we have always believed that building a great traffic engineering consultancy starts with developing great people.
We are therefore very pleased to announce two important promotions within our team:
Nath Chewta – Senior Associate, Traffic Engineer & Transport Planner
Peter Chan – Senior Traffic Engineer
Both promotions recognise much more than time served or technical capability. They reflect the increasing responsibility Nath and Peter have taken for our clients, projects and wider team, and their contribution to Quantum Traffic’s continued development as a multi-state traffic engineering consultancy.
Nath joined Quantum Traffic in March 2021, followed by Peter in February 2022. During that period, Quantum has expanded beyond its Melbourne origins to establish offices and project capability across Victoria, New South Wales, the ACT and Queensland.

Nath Chewta – Senior Associate
Nath’s promotion from Associate to Senior Associate recognises his progression into an increasingly important technical and leadership role within Quantum Traffic.
With more than 15 years of traffic engineering and transport planning experience, Nath brings extensive experience across Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, Queensland and the ACT. His work spans Traffic Impact Assessments, strategic transport planning, car parking and access design, Waste Management Plans, swept path assessments, intersection modelling and expert evidence.
Nath has particular expertise in resolving complex access, parking and geometric design issues. He regularly works alongside architects, town planners, developers and other consultants during the early stages of projects, where good traffic engineering advice can have the greatest influence on development feasibility and design outcomes.
His project experience ranges from major retail and mixed-use developments through to residential, community and specialist projects. This includes work associated with Burwood Brickworks, Keilor Central Shopping Centre, The Glen Shopping Centre, major residential developments and a variety of transport planning commissions across multiple jurisdictions.
More recently, Nath has also led specialised traffic engineering work for Snowy Monaro Regional Council, including Traffic Management Plans and operational improvements for waste facilities at Jindabyne and Cooma.
Just as importantly, Nath has become a trusted point of contact for many of Quantum Traffic’s long-standing clients.
As Senior Associate, Nath will continue to take greater responsibility for project leadership, client relationships, technical review and the development of the engineers around him.
David’s thoughts
“Nath has been a major part of Quantum’s development over the past five years. He combines strong technical ability with a practical understanding of development, and clients trust him to find solutions rather than simply identify problems.
His progression to Senior Associate is thoroughly deserved and reflects the leadership role he is already playing within the business. I am looking forward to seeing that role continue to grow.”

Peter Chan – Senior Traffic Engineer
Peter’s promotion to Senior Traffic Engineer recognises the significant development he has made since joining Quantum Traffic in 2022.
With close to a decade of industry experience, Peter has developed strong capability across traffic impact assessments, car park design, swept path analysis, planning applications and the interpretation of Council and authority requirements.
A particular strength Peter brings to his work is his ability to combine technical analysis with clear communication.
Traffic engineering is rarely undertaken in isolation. Successful outcomes frequently require close collaboration with architects, planners, developers, councils and other engineering disciplines. Peter has developed a reputation within Quantum for taking the time to understand the broader project problem before developing a traffic engineering response.
That approach is also reflected in feedback from clients, who have specifically recognised Peter’s ability to identify issues proactively, explain technical concepts clearly and work through practical solutions.
Peter’s progression to Senior Engineer also reflects an important transition in professional responsibility. He is increasingly capable of independently managing projects, liaising directly with clients and authorities, identifying engineering risks and developing practical solutions, while recognising when complex matters warrant broader technical review.
David’s thoughts
“Peter has developed enormously since joining Quantum. He is technically strong, exceptionally thorough and genuinely cares about getting the right outcome for the client.
One of Peter’s best attributes is that he does not simply complete the task in front of him. He asks questions, identifies issues and looks for a better solution. His promotion to Senior Engineer recognises both how far he has progressed and the level at which he is now operating.”
Developing the Next Generation of Quantum Traffic
These promotions are also significant for Quantum Traffic more broadly.
As our business has expanded, we have deliberately focused on building technical and leadership capability throughout the organisation rather than having knowledge and client relationships concentrated among a small number of senior people.
Our objective is to give talented engineers genuine opportunities to progress from technical delivery into project management, client leadership, mentoring and ultimately broader leadership positions.
This philosophy is consistent with the career environment we seek to create at Quantum: the flexibility and culture of a boutique consultancy, combined with exposure to diverse projects and genuine opportunities for professional development.
For our clients, this means greater depth within the Quantum Traffic team and access to experienced engineers who understand both the technical requirements of traffic engineering and the commercial realities of development.
For our people, it means there is a genuine pathway to grow with the business.
And for Quantum Traffic, it is another important step towards building a consultancy capable of continuing to develop well beyond its founders.
Better Every Day
Our philosophy at Quantum Traffic is simple: Better Every Day.
That does not mean changing everything at once. It means continually improving our technical work, client relationships, systems and, most importantly, our people.
Nath and Peter’s progression is a very good example of that philosophy in practice.
Congratulations to Nath Chewta on his promotion to Senior Associate and Peter Chan on his promotion to Senior Traffic Engineer.
Both are thoroughly deserved, and we are excited about what comes next.
