Architect

Overview

Quantum Traffic was engaged by CBRE, the building manager of a large office building in Woden Town Centre, to develop a Car Parking Management Plan aimed at improving the operation, functionality, and safety of the existing on-site parking facilities.

The project involved detailed site inspections to assess current conditions, identify risks and inefficiencies, and develop practical improvement options in line with industry standards and guidelines. Given the fixed constraints of the existing building structure, the focus was on innovative yet achievable solutions, primarily through signage and linemarking enhancements to optimise circulation and improve user experience.

Services

To support the effective management of the office building’s parking facilities, Quantum Traffic delivered:

  • Existing Conditions Review – Conducting detailed site inspections to assess traffic flow, signage, linemarking, and operational issues.
  • Risk & Issue Identification – Identifying circulation inefficiencies, safety concerns, and conflict points impacting the car park’s functionality.
  • Standards-Based Improvement Strategy – Developing modifications aligned with Australian Standards and best-practice guidelines to enhance usability.
  • Signage & Linemarking Enhancements – Recommending cost-effective and space-efficient solutions, including clearer wayfinding, improved bay markings, and better directional guidance.

Outcomes/Benefits

  • Optimised circulation, reducing congestion and confusion.
  • Enhanced user experience, with improved wayfinding, entry/exit guidance, and safety measures.
  • Practical, cost-effective solutions, implemented within the constraints of the existing structure.
  • Improved compliance with standards, ensuring a more functional and accessible parking environment.

Challenges/Solutions

The main challenge was working within the fixed constraints of an existing multi-level car park, limiting opportunities for structural changes. The focus was on maximising efficiency within the available space.

  • Strategic Signage & Linemarking Solutions – Introduced clearer bay markings, directional arrows, and wayfinding signs to enhance flow and minimize driver confusion.
  • Optimized Circulation Planning – Adjusted entry/exit layouts and traffic flow directions where possible to improve efficiency and reduce conflicts.
  • Risk Mitigation & Safety Enhancements – Addressed pedestrian conflict points, vehicle blind spots, and access issues to enhance overall safety.
